PROF. JOHN KURAKAR- SOCIAL CRITIC AND EDUCATIONALIST

Prof. John Kurakar a renowned Educationalist is born and brought up at Kottarakkara, in Kollam district of Kerala state. He is an eminent personality who is actively participating in different walks of life. In educational, Social, Cultural, religious and interfaith fields he proved his calibre. He has rendered his service as a Lecturer in the beginning and later he became the Professor in St. Gregorious College, Kottarakkara, for 30 years. He has not only imparted education to the youth but also tuned their life to become a real human being.
In the world of Kaliyuga people are impious, jealous and selfish, they are anxious to become rich all on a sudden. But prof. John Kurakar is an exception. He rendered his service as the Programme Coordinator of the National Service Scheme of the college. He spared his time for Adult and Continuing Education Programme, Population Education Programme of Kerala University and he served as the Secretary of FANSA. For the dedicated service in the field of adult education he has bestowed with cash awards, merit certificates continually for five years from 1982 to 1987.
He is remembering the memorable days he spent with Kerala Sashtra Sahithya Parishad as the State Level Education Programme Convener. He became a Member of the Editorial Board of Sashtra Kerala, Grama Sashtram and Sastragathi.He is a famous writer and published more than 17,000 articles related with Literature, Culture, Science, Finance, Social Problems etc. On all the crucial problems he posted his views through the “Window of Knowledge” ie his website. Upanyasa Manjari, Bhasha Bhushanam, Bhasha Sodhini, Kerala History, Window of Knowledge, Quiz-Quiz etc. were some of the books published by him.
After his retirement Prof. John Kurakar was elected to the post of Global Council Trustee of United Religious Initiative. It is an International Interfaith Organisation constituted for the maintenance of peace and harmony in the world. He is an active Global Member and attended many International Conferences and meetings of URI, in its Head Quarters at Sansfransisco in USA and in different parts of the world. He also participated 6th ‘ World Parliament of Religions at Salt lake City. He attended many Holy book Conferences, National and Zonal Assemblies and expressed his views on various issues and working very hard for the improvement of URI in the world.
For the dedicated and sincere service rendered in different fields various organisations offered many awards and merit certificates to him. He received Bharathiya Guru Sreshta from Pravasi Bharathi, awards and certificates from Kerala University, Gandhiya Nava Sakthi Sangam, United Religions Initiative, National Service Scheme, Adult and Continuing Education and Extension Department etc, for the fruitful service rendered in social service and interfaith activities.
He is the State President of Kerala Kavya Kala Sahithy, a literary and educational organisation rendering its service in more than one hundred schools and colleges. Various training programmes, training for competitive exams, conduct seminars, exhibitions and study tours for the school and college students and youths.
Another social work done by him is in the field of Palliative care. He is now the President of Kerala Palliative Care Initiative. 152 chronic disease and bedridden patients were identified through a field survey and palliative care was offered to them. A special ward was formed in Taluk Hospital Kottarakkara under the supervision of a famous physician Dr. Jayasankar M.B.B.S, M.D; Allopathic and Ayurvedic medical camps, counselling classes and financial assistance to the needy patients and other benevolent services were organised under his leadership.
He is the President of Edan Nagar Residents Association, President of Kurakaran Valiya Veettil Kudumbayogam and President of Global Thinkers Forum and the Gerneral Secretary of Alumni Association of St. Gregorios College, Alumni Trivandrum Chapter and Alumni Baharain Chapter.Under his leadership rain harvesting, bio gas production from cow dung and garbage, planting of saplings and seedlings, protection of stream and river campaigns and different eco-friendly programmes were promoted. He played a pivotal role in the Meenpidippara Tourism Project and in the protection of Pulamon stream campaign also.
His strength is mainly vested in the firm support of his family. His wife is Smt. Molly Jacob a retired Professor of St.Gregorious college, Kottarakkara. God blessed them with two children, daughter named Dr. Manju Kurakar who is an Assistant Professor in Pune Medical College and son Manu Kurakar who is an Assistant Manager at Systems, SBI in Bombay. He also has a 3 year old grand daughter named Jess Mary Kurian.

കൊട്ടാരക്കര കോളേജ് അലുംനി അസോസിയേഷൻ  യു..  ചാപ്റ്റർ    അജ് മാൻ  ബീച്ച് റിസോർട്ട്  ഓപ്പൺ ആഡിറ്റോറിയത്തിൽ  വച്ച്  കൊട്ടാരക്കര കോളേജിലെ  29 റിട്ടയേർഡ്  അദ്ധ്യാപകരെ ആദരിച്ചു .താലപൊലി ,വാദ്യമേളം എന്നിവയുടെ അകമ്പടിയോടെയാണ് തങ്ങളുടെ   അദ്ധ്യാപകരെ  നൂറുകണക്കിന്  പൂർവ വിദ്യാർത്ഥികൾ സമ്മേളന വേദിയിലേക്ക് ആനയിച്ചത് .തങ്ങളാണ് ലോകത്തെ ഏറ്റവും വലിയധനികരെന്നും തങ്ങളുടെ ബാങ്കുകളായ ശിഷ്യർ ലോകത്ത് എവിടെയും ഉള്ളതിനാലാണ് ഇതൊന്നും അധ്യാപകർനിറഞ്ഞ മനസ്സോടെ പറഞ്ഞപ്പോൽ  ചടങ്ങ് അതിധന്യമായി .അദ്ധ്യാപകരുടെ പ്രീയ ശിഷ്യർ കാൽതൊട്ട് വന്ദിച്ച് ,പൊന്നാട അണിയിച്ച് ഉപഹാരങ്ങൾ നൽകി ആദരിച്ചു .എല്ലാ അധ്യാപകരും സംസാരിച്ചു . 2019  നവംബർ 15  ന് യു.. -  നടന്ന   ഗുരുവന്ദനം ഒരു ചരിത്രസംഭവമായി എന്നും രേഖപ്പെടുത്തും

the meeting proposed to collect Rs 250 as membership fee and conduct the annual meeting of Association on the 21 st of september every year. The meeting also agreed to have a family get-together every year at a convenient place other than Kottarakara. The meeting concluded at 1 p.m followed by a lunch at Nadan Hotel, Kottarakara. 17 members participated the first meeting.

FIRST MEETING OF THE RETIRED TEACHERS OF ST.GREGORIOS COLLEGE

first Meeting of the retired teachers of the St. Gregorios college held on 21st september,2000 at the Residence of Prof. K.S Leelamma. The meeting was presided over by Prof. Abraham Philip and started with silebt prayer. Prof. K. J Cheriyan welcomed the gatherings. The meting discussed the formation of the Association and was selected an ad-hoc committee.

TEARFUL TRIBUTE TO PROF: K.S MATHEW


Prof K.S Mathew, 75, Retired Professor in physical Education, St Gregorios College, Kottarakara died in Chengannoor Hospital on Tuesday 2nd February 2010 following a massive heart attack. He is survived by his wife, Mary kutty (Rtd teacher) and sons Simon K. Mathew(Busines) Advocate Goerge Mathew.
He was the active member of the Kerala Sports Team and Kerala University Foot Ball team. He was the vice president of the district Volly Ball Association, president, Kaliyankal Valiyaveettil Kudumba yogam, Council Member of Marthoma Church. He was actively involved in the Congress Party in Aranmula Block.
The body was taken from his home at chengannoor. The funeral held at 2.30 pm at Marthoma Church Arattupuzha, near Chengannoor on thursday 4th Feb,2010.

THENMALA TOUR


Asssociation conducted its 2nd Family tour on 14th may,2003. Destination was Thenmala & Aryankavu. a Team of 44 members participated. journey started from adoor at 8 am. Boating was also included in the programme.

2nd FAMILY MEET


2nd Family meet of the ART was held on 21 st september,2002 at Hotel High land. Dr Alexander Jacob was the chief guest. 23 familes actively participated. The function started with prayer.Prof K.J Cheriyan welcomed the gatherings. Prof. P.A Mathew presided. Dr Alexander Jacob IPS inaugurated the family meet. Prof. Abraham Philip, Rev D Daniel, Prof K.S Mathew were spoke. Prof T.J Johnson presented the Draft Bye-law of ART. Prof M. Chacko expressed vote of thanks.

First General Body meeting was held on 10th may,2002 at Hotel Nadan Hall. Mrs Leela Chummar was the chief guest. 18 members participated. The General body elected the following members to the executive committee of the association for next years. The meeting also decided to have a written constitution for the Association

The First Family Get-together of ART was held at Nadan Hotel on 25th May,2001. 14 families participated.

The committee decided the name of the Association " Association of Retired Teachers (ART) The Committee also decided to conduct a one- day tour. Prof. K.J Cheriyan was entrusted with the arrangements of the tour programmes. seven committee member actively participated in the meeting. The second committee was held on 4th may,2001 at the residence of Prof. K.S Leelamma at 11 a.m Vice president Prof. K.G Mathew presided.

KOOTHATTUKULAM TOUR

KOOTHATTUKULAM TOUR


The assocition conducted one day tour at Koothattukulam on 1st may,2007. A team of 35 members started from kottarakara at 8 am and reached Koothattukulam at 12.30 pm. There was arranged a meeting at Taste Bind Hotel near Koothattukulam town. Some cultural programs were conducted. Prof k.J Johnson, Prof K.J Cheriyan and Prof M. Chacko were actively participated in the cultural programs.
After the lunch the team visited an ancient old church and the residence of Prof. Abraham Philip. The tour program was interesting and educative. The team reached kottarakara at 7 pm

6th ANNUAL FAMILY MEET AT CHENGANNUR


6th annual meet and family get-together was on 7-10-2006 at Hotel Bhagavath Garden, Chengannoor. Prof M.K Joykutty, president presided over the function. Prof K.S Mathew welcomed the participants. Prof Samuel Joseph, Former Principal, Marthoma College was the chief guest. Association also conducted a Health seminar at 12 am on “ Old Age”. Prof T.G Rajan presented the annual report and Prof T.J Johnson presented the statement of accounts. Prof Jessy George expressed thanks.
8th executive committee meeting was held on 17-04-2007 at the Residence of the T.G Rajan.

5th ANNUAL FAMILY MEET

The 5th Annual Family meet of the association was held on 21-9- 2005 at Nila Palace. Prof E.K Zacharia presided over the function. Prof. D. Mathew was the chief guest. Prof. T.J Johnson welcomed the participants. Prof Fr D Daniel cor episcopa, Prof K.S Mathew, Prof. Annamma George, Prof M.K Cheriyan were spoke on the occasion. 30 members participated.
6th executive committee h was held on 26-0202006 at the residence of Prof. K.T Annamma. 7th Committee was held at the Residence of Prof T.J Johnson on 15-08-2006 at 4 pm.

ASTAMUDI TOUR

ART conducted its Astamudi Tour on 21-4-2005. The journey started from kottarakara at 9 am. A meeting was held at Astamudi Health Resort Centre. Prof T.G Rajan welcomed. Mr Sangeeth and Mrs Elmy were the guests. Prof M.K Joykutty, president presided over the business meeting. Lunch was at 1 pm Prof K.J Cheriyan expressed thanks.

3rd FAMILY MEET
